Our Works
As biodiversity is under increasing pressure across the world, from unsustainable land use, weakened community governance systems, and intense demands on natural resources. These challenges are especially visible in Nigeria’s rich and unique rainforest landscapes, where wildlife, forests, and Indigenous cultures are deeply connected.
At the Boki Biodiversity Conservation Foundation (BBCFoundation), we are committed to changing this narrative. Our work is grounded in the heart of Boki rainforest region of Cross River State Nigeria, home to Africa most important protected areas, the Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, Mbe Mountain, and the Okwangwo Division of Cross River National Park.
These landscapes shelter rare and endangered species, support local livelihoods, and represent centuries-old cultural heritage.
We believe that conservation thrives when communities are at the center of decision making and stewardship. BBCFoundation works hand in hand with Indigenous and local communities to protect biodiversity, strengthen traditional governance systems, and promote sustainable use of natural resources. Through collaborative stewardship, we support people in becoming active partners and stakeholders in safeguarding the forests, wildlife, and cultural values grounded in indigenous knowledge, cultural values, and community led governance.
Our work blends science, community knowledge, and cultural resilience to build a future where nature and people can thrive together. By empowering communities, supporting youth and women involvement, and advancing conservation practices grounded in local realities, BBCFoundation is shaping a new model of conservation in Nigeria, one that honors biodiversity and ecosystem to be well protected, more resilient and sustainably managed for future generations.
